Product notes

Sumac is a spice made from the red berries of the sumac, a Mediterranean shrub whose fruits are dried and then finely ground. Recognisable by its beautiful purplish-red colour, it delights with its tangy, fruity and slightly lemony flavour and can be used as a substitute for salt.

Widely used in Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisines, sumac adds a touch of freshness and originality to many dishes. It is a delicious seasoning for salads, raw vegetables, grilled vegetables, meat, fish, marinades and sauces.

Traditionally sprinkled over hummus, grilled meats or sliced onions, it is a fine substitute for lemon in certain recipes, whilst adding a subtle and elegant aromatic note. It is also a key ingredient in the famous za’atar spice blend.

Serving suggestion: use sumac as a finishing touch or just before serving to preserve all its freshness and tangy notes. It will add colour, vibrancy and balance to your dishes.
